Cingular Wireless Will Soon Be Going Away

The largest wireless service provider in the United States, Cingular Wireless, will soon undergo a name change.

This carrier had been jointly owned by AT&T and BellSouth, but last week AT&T finally got Federal permission to acquire BellSouth.

As the sole owner of Cingular, AT&T has said in the past that it intends to change the carrier's name to "AT&T Wireless". The re-branding is expected to happen over the next several months.

This wireless service provider's headquarters will remain in Atlanta.

Other Changes?

Only time will tell whether there will be other changes to the former Cingular Wireless. At this point, AT&T is only making vague statements about the future.

The company's wireless plans are important to smartphone users, as Cingular has recently been aggressively adding new cutting-edge devices to its product line-up, like the Samsung BlackJack and Treo 680. The company currently offers eleven smartphones and cellular-wireless handhelds.

This carrier also sports one of the nation's fastest wireless networks.
