Say Good-bye to the Treo 680 Copper

Last fall, when Palm, Inc. launched the Treo 680 -- its latest Palm OS smartphone -- it was available in four colors. Now that number has dropped to three.

A simple message on Palm's web site gave the news: "Treo 680 smartphone is no longer available in Copper." No reason was given for this change.

This product version appears to have been abruptly discontinued. Pictures of this smartphone in an orange casing can still be found all over Palm's site.

The Treo 680 is still available in Graphite (silver), Crimson (red), and Actic (white). However, at least in the U.S., the only way to get red or white is to purchase the unlocked version directly from Palm.

This smartphone greatly resembles previous Treos, but does not need the unpopular external antenna that those models had to have. It is also thinner that its predecessors.

The 680 runs Palm OS Garnet, and includes 64 MB of user-available storage.

It is a GSM quad-band smartphone with support for GPRS and EDGE. It also includes Bluetooth.

Naturally, this Treo includes a suite of PIM applications -- Address Book, Calendar, To-Do list. It is also bundled with a suite of applications that will allow users to view and edit Microsoft Office documents.

An SD slot for additional storage and a 0.3 megapixel camera are also part of this model.
