Asus Announces 3G Cellular-Wireless Handheld

Asus has taken the wraps off the P735, a handheld with support for UMTS, a 3G cellular-wireless networking standard.

This Pocket PC will use the standard cany-bar design, with control buttons located below a QVGA screen.

Additional Applications

Naturally, this handheld will come with the standard suite of Pocket PC software, but it also will have some additional applications.

For example, ASUS's Remote Presenter will let users control Powerpoint presentations stored on a notebook via a Bluetooth connection.

Another added application to help save contacts easily will be the P735's business card recognition feature. The built-in 2-megapixel camera will be able to pick out business card details and store them directly into the handheld's list of Contacts.

The My Secret application will be able to encrypt sensitive documents.

Networking

In addition to UMTS (2100 Mhz), this device will offer GSM (900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz) and GPRS Class 10. The frequencies supported indicate that this device is intended for Europe and Asia, not the United States.

The P735 will also include Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.

Despite this announcement, ASUS has not said when or where this Pocket PC will be available.
