According to documents filed with this U.S. government agency, the K-JAR will be a clamshell Pocket PC phone with a built-in keyboard. On its exterior will be a small screen for displaying phone-related information, and opening it up will expose a 2.4-inch, QVGA screen and a QWERTY keyboard.
This handheld will have several wireless networking options. It will be a GSM/GPRS device, but there's no indication at this point that it will offer EDGE or 3G cellular-wireless networking. To make up for this, the K-JAR will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 1.2.
It will run Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition on a 200 MHz processor from Texas Instruments. This device will have 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM. It will have a slot for removable memory cards, but which type is not clear at this point. The user manual submitted to the FCC refers to both a miniSD and a microSD card slot.
In addition, this handheld will include a 2.0 megapixel camera.
As often happens, FCC approval has come before i-mate has officially announced this device. That means that the eventual price and release date for the K-JAR are currently unknown.
All the documentation filed with the FCC on this handheld can be found on this government agency's web site.
