The full version of the Windows Mobile Device Center is now available. This is the application that is replacing ActiveSync in the latest version of Microsoft's operating system for desktop and laptop computers.
Despite the name change, this application will still perform the same tasks as ActiveSync always did. At the same time, though, its look and feel have been updated.
Going forward, anyone who connects a Windows Mobile device to a computer running Vista for the first time will have the necessary synchronization software automatically downloaded.
Those who already have Vista and have previously connected a Windows Mobile handheld or smartphone will need to download the new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center. This can be found on Microsoft's web site.
ActiveSync should not be installed on any computer running Vista.
