Toshiba has a Windows Mobile device on display at the 3GSM World Congress, going on now in Barcelona. The G900 will offer several cutting edge features, according to todo Pocket PC.
Reportedly, this upcoming smartphone will break new ground for the Windows Mobile platform by including an 800-by-480-pixel (WVGA) display that measures 3 inches. It will also offer a built-in fingerprint scanner, allowing for biometric security tests.
At this point, it seems this device will have a generally horizontal orientation, and will sport a QWERTY keyboard that can be hidden behind its screen.
Windows Mobile Inside
Toshiba says that the G900 will run the recently announced Windows Mobile 6, but doesn't reveal which version. The company also doesn't reveal what processor it will use.
It does say that this device will have 64 MB of internal storage, plus a miniSD card slot. In addition, it will function as a Flash memory drive.
Communication Options
According to the information revealed by Toshiba at the 3GSM World Congress, this will be a tri-band GSM phone with support for some form of 3G cellular-wireless networking.
In addition, it will include both Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.
The G900 is also expected to include dual cameras: a 2.0 megapixel primary one, and a secondary one for video conferencing.
What's Not Known
Despite its willingness to put a specification sheet of this model on display, there's a great deal Toshiba isn't saying about it.
This includes -- in addition to points noted above -- when and where the G900 is going to be released.
A Return
Although it has continued to release Windows Mobile-based devices in its home country, it has been years since Toshiba has been a major player in the world handheld/smartphone market.
Those who remember the days when this company regularly released cutting edge devices will surely welcome its impending return.
