Microsoft has taken the wraps off Windows Mobile 6, the latest version of its operating system for handhelds and smartphones. Not surprisingly, many are wondering when -- or if -- their devices will get upgrades.

There's one group of people who no longer need to wonder: T-Mobile Dash owners. Microsoft has announced that this smartphone will be updated to Windows Mobile 6 in the coming months.
In addition, current T-Mobile Dash owners will be able to upgrade their existing devices to Windows Mobile 6.
HP, Palm, Toshiba, Etc.
At this point, the Dash is the only device that will definitely get an operating system upgrade.
In the area of new models with Windows Mobile 6, Microsoft has announced that Orange plans to introduce the SPV E650 smartphone from HTC, and in Japan SoftBank Mobile. will offer new devices from Toshiba and HTC in mid-2007.
Beyond that, details get less specific.But quite a few big names have promised to offer devices based on this new OS this year.
This includes Cingular Wireless (now the new AT&T), Chunghwa Telecom, Dopod International Corp., HP, LG, Motorola Inc., Palm, Samsung, Sprint, Telefónica, Verizon Wireless, and Vodafone.
Some of these companies will reveal more specifics themselves, such as Toshiba's announcement of the G900 smartphone.
