Latest BlackBerry Handheld Unveiled

After months of leaks and rumors, Research in Motion has officially announced its latest device, the BlackBerry 8800.

This upcoming model will have a full QWERTY keyboard and be large enough to qualify as a cellular-wireless handheld, but it will include many of the new multimedia features that debuted on RIM's latest smartphone, the Pearl.

To add extra storage for music and video files, the 8800 will include a a miniSD card slot.

It will also have a trackball like the Pearl, not a scroll wheel as previous BlackBerry handhelds do.

In addition, this device will include a built-in GPS receiver.

This quad-band GSM-based phone will include Bluetooth 2.0, allowing it to use many types of wireless headsets.

Availability

The only carriers who have announced so far that they will be offering the BlackBerry 8800 are in Europe: Orange, Vodafone, and T-Mobile.

Nevertheless, RIM's latest handheld is expected to eventually be available in countries all around the world.
