In the middle of last year, Verizon introduced a CDMA version of the Motorola Q, a device that caught enough people's eyes that there was plenty of demand for a GSM version of this a slim Windows Mobile-based smartphone. Today, Motorola announced plans to release two GSM-based followups.
Both of these will run Windows Mobile 6, but their designs will be slightly different, and only one of them will have 3G support.

Motorola Q q9 and Q gsm |
Motorola Q gsm
As mentioned earlier, the only version of the original Q runs on CDMA networks. The Motorola Q gsm will, obviously, be a GSM device with support for the 2.5G networking standard EDGE.
Physically, this upcoming model will be essentially identical to its predecessor.
Motorola Q q9
The q9 will be the first in this series with support for the 3G cellular-wireless networking standard HSDPA.
The design of this upcoming device will be a noticeably changed from the current one. The keyboard will be curved, for example, and significantly larger. The oval D-pad will also be changed to a circle.
This smartphone will also include a microSD card slot and 256 MB of built-in memory.
Availability
The Motorola Q q9 will be released during the second quarter of this year, while the Q gsm will be introduced during the second half of 2007.
However, there's no word yet on where either of these smartphones will be available, or what they will cost.
