Rumors Circulating of Ultra-Thin, WiMAX Treo

An anonymous source has reported to Engadget that Palm, Inc. is going to release a smartphone late this year with some cutting-edge features.

Supposedly, this will be the first "ultra thin" Treo. This could be in response to the growing number of very thin smartphones made by Palm's competitors. Its latest models, the Treo 680 and Treo 750 are thinner than this company's earlier ones, but are still much thicker than devices like the T-Mobile Dash, Samsung BlackJack, and Nokia E62.

What's drawing the most attention to this device, though, is the assertion that it will have support for WiMAX. Sprint expects to begin offering this 4G cellular-wireless networking standard before the end of this year, and Engadget's source says that one of the first devices to support this new network will be this Treo.

At this point, these few details are that's known about this supposedly upcoming smartphone. The source didn't even reveal whether this device will run Windows Mobile or Garnet OS.
