Make a Nintendo DS Into More than a Toy

With its dual displays, one of them a touchscreen, the Nintendo DS has the potential to be more than just a mobile game console. By and large, though, this potential isn't being realized.

Still, Opera Software is doing its part. It released a version of its eponymous web browser for this device late last year, and announced today this product will be introduced in North America on on June 4.

As the DS already includes Wi-Fi, it will be relatively simple for users to surf the Web with this application whenever they are in range of a hotspot.

"Gaming devices are growing more advanced and a great Web experience is becoming a product differentiator for gaming manufacturers," said Scott Hedrick, Opera's Executive Vice President in charge of devices. "Opera is excited to work with Nintendo to deliver a unique dual screen, full Internet experience on Nintendo DS."

The price for this cartridge in the U.S. has not yet been set by Nintendo. It sells for EURO 39.99 in Europe.
