ASUS Unveils Rugged UMPC

At the CeBIT tradeshow going on now in Germany, ASUS is demoing a rugged, convertible UMPC with a built in keyboard.

Codenamed the Highly Integration UMPC, this device will have the general shape of a laptop, but like some Tablet PCs its screen can be flipped around and closed over the keyboard.

It will include a 7-inch, 800-by-480-pixel touchscreen and a port to hook up an external monitor.

For connectivity, the Highly Integration UMPC will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus an Ethernet port and two USB ports.

It will also have a 1.3 megapixel camera and a GPS receiver.

Although ASUS is willing to show this PC off, it hasn't released all the details on it yet. For example, the company says this model will use a processor made by Via, but not what its speed will be. ASUS also isn't talking about the capacity of this upcoming device's hard drive.

Most significantly, there's no word yet when the Highly Integration UMPC will be released or what it will cost.
