Two GPS-Enabled Phones Debut Today from Pharos

Pharos Science & Applications launched the Pharos GPS Phone 600 and 600e today.

Both these models are Pocket PC phones with a tablet shape. They don't have a hardware numberpad or keyboard, and so depend on their touchscreens for dialing and text entry. This, however allows them to have a relatively large screen for their overall size. These models also don't require an external GPS antenna.

The GPS Phone series includes a 2.0 megapixel camera and the ability to stamp the location a picture was taken on the image.

In addition to their navigational capabilities, these Pocket PCs offer both work (Microsoft Office Mobile, Microsoft Outlook Mobile) and entertainment features (Windows Media Player Mobile, built-in FM Tuner).

These are unlocked quad-band GSM phones with GPRS and EDGE. They also include Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

Two Versions

The GPS Phone 600 provides navigation in real-time via preloaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, this company's Ostia navigation software, and a trial subscription to Pharos’ web-based Smart Navigator services.

The GPS Phone 600e is intended for enterprise customers who want to bundle proprietary navigation applications (e.g. college campus tours) or for consumers who already have navigation software they prefer.

Pricing and Availability

Both these devices are available today at Newegg.com.  The 600 is $700, while the 600e is $600.

The GPS Phone series will be available at Amazon.com, Costco.com, Dell, Datavision, Fry’s, Mobile Planet, Office Depot/Tech Depot, and other retailers in late March.
