Microsoft has announced the launch of ZenZui, an independent company that is offering a new user interface for mobile devices that was initially developed by the Microsoft Redmond Research lab.
ZenZui worked with Microsoft IP Ventures to acquire the patented technology and get assistance in finding venture capital funding.
ZenZui’s Zooming User Interface
ZenZui’s core technology brings advanced information visualization techniques out of the research lab and onto mobile phones.
Its high-frame rate zooming user interface employs up to 36 individual “Tiles” that are selected and customized by the user with relevant content, interactive communications, and fresh data. This can include everything from tapping into social networks to sports and weather info.
The company believes that its modular tile interface lets users sync, surf, and share digital content quickly, easily, and in a distinctly new way.
Companies who are part of ZenZui's initial trial include Kayak.com, OTOlabs, Avenue A, Razorfish, and Traffic.com Inc.
A Demonstration
ZenZui has put together a video demonstrating how its user interface operates on phones with a variety of screen sizes, resolutions, and input methods.
