Samsung i760 Gets FCC Approval

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has given Samsung its approval to release its latest Windows Mobile smartphone in the United States.

This is not a case where an FCC filing gives the world its first glimpse of an upcoming device. Samsung began showing off the i760 at tradeshows early this year. However, so far this company has been willing to reveal few details on this model, and the documents filed with the FCC give little additional information.

Still, the FCC filing does confirm some rumors about the i760. For example, this smartphone will definitely have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.

It has also been confirmed that this Windows Mobile device will run on CDMA networks. Unconfirmed information has indicated that the i760 will be released by Verizon Wireless, a carrier that uses CDMA.

What Little We Know

The Samsung i760 will be super-thin, but still offer a built-in QWERTY keyboard and a numberpad. Users will be able able to slide the keyboard behind the touchscreen and numberpad. Unlike the majority of other devices that use this configuration, the i760 will be very slim.

It is expected to run Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition.

Aside from the bare facts, though, little else is known about this smartphone, including when it will be released and what it will cost.
