This device will use the same form-factor as the Sidekick 3, but to lower the cost many of the features of the current Sidekick model have been taken out.

This smartphone will go on the market on April 25.

An Overview of the Sidekick iD

The T-Mobile Sidekick series has proved to be popular with consumers below the age of about 25, but at $200 after rebates for the latest model it's somewhat expensive for a teenager. That's why Danger, Inc. -- the company behind the Sidekick line -- is putting together an entry-level device.

Unlike T-Mobile's current Sidekick, the iD won't include a camera or support for EDGE cellular-wireless networking. The reduction in features will allow T-Mobile to charge just $99 after rebate for this model.

The iD isn't expected to replace the Sidekick 3, but instead it will provide a less expensive alternative.

Unlike preveous models in this line, users of this device will be able to easily change its color with replaceable exterior panels.

“The T-Mobile Sidekick has always been about freedom of expression and communicating with style,” said Greg Andrews, T-Mobile USA's director, marketing. “With the T-Mobile Sidekick iD, we’re expanding on the theme of individuality by increasing the personalization aspect and providing pricing that is accessible to a wide range of consumers.”
