Research in Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry push email service has proved to be very popular, so it's a big deal when the service has problems. Over the past few hours, many of RIM's customers have experienced delays sending and receiving messages.
The company has acknowledged that there has been a service interruption for at least some of its customers, but has few details at this time.
A Cause for Nervousness
For several years now, many executives, politicians, and stock traders have come to depend on their BlackBerry for virtually instantaneous email, so any interruption in the service is big news.
Not surprisingly, this has had an effect on RIM's stock price; although not a large one at this point. The company's share's opened down today, but not significantly.
