Treo 700p System Software Update Scheduled for Next Month

Users of the Treo 700p have complained about problems with Bluetooth wireless networking, and for months Palm has been promising a system software update to deal with these. The release of this is finally drawing near.

In a post on Palm's new blog, Steve Sinclair, Treo Product Manager, says that this software update is currently going through the carrier certification phase, which is one of the final parts of releasing a system update for a smartphone like the 700p.

Sinclair goes on to say that currently the best estimate for when users will be able to get this update will be during the week of May 28. However, if carriers run into significant problems in their testing they could ask for changes, which might push back the release of this update.

Other Changes

According to Sinclair, this maintenance update will deal with more than just Bluetooth problems.

It will, in his words, offer "updates to SMS send/receive performance, MP3 playback, phone app launch speed and other areas."

He did not go into detail on exactly what improvmements will be made in these areas.
