BlackBerry 8300 May Be Called the Curve

Although it has not yet been announced, there's has been plenty of un-official evidence that RIM is preparing to release a new BlackBerry model.

The rumors up until now have referred to this smartphone as the 8300. However, it might ship with a somewhat more consumer friendly name.

For a time, the web site www.blackberrycurve.com automatically re-directed visitors to www.blackberry8300.com, a good -- if not conclusive -- indication that this device might be called the BlackBerry Curve.

However, shortly after this news broke on miblackberry.com the re-direct was removed.

Playing With the Names

If this upcoming smartphone is called the Curve, it wouldn't be the first time RIM has broken away from the long tradition of diving its models simple number designations.

The company's first consumer-oriented device debuted last year as the BlackBerry Pearl.

However, internally this unit is still called the BlackBerry 8100.

More About the BlackBerry 8300/Curve

RIM launched the BlackBerry 8800 earlier this year, and the 8300 is supposed to be a very similar device.

The upcoming model will reportedly use the same form factor as the 8800, but have a built-in 2 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.

The BlackBerry 8300 may debut from T-Mobile USA as early as next week.
