Samsung has just announced that it has developed an 8 GB microSD memory card, a milestone in increasing the capacity of this tiny data storage format.
This card, when available, will significantly increase the storage capacity of many future smartphones. It is capable of holding 2,000 MP3 music files; 4,000 digital photos; or approximately 5 DVD-quality movies.
Curiously, the company never makes it clear whether this card will use the SDHC format. The original SD format tops out at 2 GB, so Samsung's upcoming 8 GB should use the new format, but the company's announcement says nothing about that.
Samsung also doesn't say when this product will be commercially available, or what it will cost.
