Palm, Inc. has just sent journalists an invitation to a webcast scheduled for tomorrow. Although the company gives few details on what will be discussed, it is virtually certain that Palm will use this opportunity to unveil the new device -- often called the Hawk -- that company co-founder Jeff Hawkins has been hinting about for almost two years.
The invitation says, in part:
Jeff Hawkins, founder of Palm, Inc., will host a live video webcast on Wed., May 30, to describe a new category of mobile device. The webcast will follow the announcement of this new product at the D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif.
Neither Fish Nor Foul
Hawkins has been talking since 2005 about his company's plans to create a third product category that's neither a handheld nor a smartphone. However, he's never been willing to say very much about this.
Even this device's code-name isn't known, so most people generally refer to it as the Hawk.
Speculation has ranged from it being a UMPC to a web tablet to a portable media player.
