HTC -- the company behind many of the most popular Windows mobile smartphones -- has scheduled a big announcement for June 5, but so far has been very quiet about what it intends to reveal that day.
The company may be planning to unveil a smartphone with many of the features of the Apple iPhone, if an unconfirmed report on Smartphone Thoughts is correct.

This will supposedly be based on HTC's Elf, a Pocket PC phone with a consumer-oriented design (see image at left). Unlike previous devices on this platform, though, HTC has reportedly added multi-touch capabilities to this model, allowing users to more easily control it with their fingertips.
What's Multi-Touch?
Multi-touch is one of the features of the iPhone that has attracted the most attention. According to Apple, multi-touch will allow iPhone users to, "glide through albums with Cover Flow, flip through photos and email them with a touch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page."
Exactly what multi-touch will allow Elf users to do won't be known until June 5.
According to the unnamed source, HTC plans to release its multi-touch based smartphone worldwide.
More About the HTC Elf
The as-yet-unreleased HTC Elf will run Windows Mobile 6 Professional on a 201 MHz processor, and include 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM (35 MB user accessible). An SD card slot will also be included.
It will have a 2.8-inch, 320-by-240-pixel (QVGA) touchscreen and a 2.0 megapixel camera.
This quad-band GSM phone will offer GPRS/EDGE, but no 3G capabilities. It will have Bluetooth 2.0 but not Wi-Fi.
