RIM's flagship smartphone, the BlackBerry Pearl, is already a very small smartphone. But if an unconfirmed report is correct, its successor could be smaller yet, even as it gains additional features.
Details are starting to leak out on the Pearl 2, and this upcoming smartphone will supposedly be significantly thinner than the current model. Instead of being 0.6 inches (14 mm) thick, the new model will be just 0.24 inches (6 mm) thick, according to Gizmodo.
The weight will also reportedly decrease by 30 percent, which means it will decrease from 3.1 ounces to 2.2 ounces.
Hello CDMA and 3G
Despite this decrease in size and weight, new features are reportedly being added. One of these support for a new cellular-wireless standard.
The source for this rumor is Sprint, which means that the Pearl 2 will supposedly run on CDMA networks. The current version only offers GSM support.
In addition, the unconfirmed report says this smartphone will supprt Sprint's 3G cellular-wireless network, something the current model doesn't do.
Another improvement in this upcoming device will be a 2.0 megapixel camera, up from a 1.3 one.
The BlackBerry Pearl 2 will supposedly debut during the fourth quarter of this year.
