According to an unconfirmed report, Nintendo may be making itself into a possible content supplier for the Apple iPhone in the area of games.
The web site NoHeat mentions that three games, exclusive to the iPhone and not other iPod models, will debut for about $29 on the iTunes store. It is not known what titles will appear, but it is likely that at least one of them will be a major title release.
As Issue of Control
As the NoHeat article points out, one of the issues of developing games is the lack of hard buttons for the iPhone. Apparently, some kind of on-screen directional controller will be present that will enable users to control the action on these games.
It is also not known at this time if these games will be native Mac OS X applications or if they will be Safari-browser based, as other third-party software for the iPhone will have to be.
Neither Apple or Nintendo have confirmed or denied this, so as of now this remains just a rumor of a possible content offering.
The Apple iPhone is slated for customer availability on June 29.
