Verizon Releases System Software Update for Treo 700w/wx

Palm, Inc. has introduced new system software for two versions of a Windows Mobile-based Treo offered by Verizon Wireless.

Treo 700w

This includes a major update to the firmware for the Treo 700w, bringing significant new features, including the ability to use this smartphone as a wireless modem for a second device such as a laptop, and support for stereo Bluetooth headphones.

Other improvements include:

• Today Screen enhancements featuring one-touch access to the Speakerphone and Mute control buttons
• Hands-free enhancements
• Abbreviated dialing preferences

Treo 700wx

The new system software for the Treo 700wx isn't as significant a change, but it does include some improvements to Bluetooth functionality and more.

Specifically, it includes:

• Update Registry settings for Bluetooth stereo headsets (A2DP) and Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking (DUN) support.
• DUN performance improvements.
• Additional Daylight Savings Time features.

Who Needs This Update?

The Palm Treo 700 w/wx update applies to Windows Mobile Treos on the Verizon Wireless network only, and specifically to devices that have the current software versions stated as being TREO700W-1.02-VZW, TREO700W-1.10-VZW, or TREO700WX-1.20-VZW.

To check the software version of a Windows Mobile Treo, press Start, select Settings, select the System tab, open About, go to the Phone tab, and the Software Version will appear there.

The Palm Treo 700w/wx update can be downloaded now by going to the Palm Support web site.

It is advised to follow the installation instructions as they are noted on the Palm Support page for minimal problems during installation.
