Palm, Inc. has posted on its web page a fix for a bug that can result in users of AT&T's version of the Treo 750 missing phone calls or appointments.
Occasionally this smartphone can enter a state where it no longer makes a sound for incomming phone calls and notifications. According to Palm, this is caused by too many applications trying to use the audio driver simultaneously.
When the Notes Recorder, the Vibrate Motor, Voice Command, Windows Media Player, and/or the camera/video recorder are all running at once, these applications can overwhelm the audio driver. When this happens, an incoming call or an alarm puts the driver into a suspend loop, and the sounds do not play.
A free software update released by Palm will fix this problem.
Getting the Update
The Treo 750 Smartphone Audio Alerts Update can be downloaded from Palm's support web site now.
It should only be installed by Treo 750 users who have AT&T as their carrier. It is apparently not necessary for the Vodafone Treo 750v.
This is not a ROM update. Installing it will not require erasing all the data on the smartphone, but anyone who performs a hard reset later on will need to re-install this software.
