A highly-anticipated Windows Mobile smartphone has passed an important milestone for its U.S. release. The Federal Communications Commission has given its approval to the HTC Kaiser.
This is a required step toward the introduction of this model, which is rumored to be heading to AT&T. It is supposedly going to replace this carrier's current high-end Windows Mobile smartphone, the AT&T 8525, and be called the 8925.
The documents filed with the FCC don't reveal many new details about the Kaiser, but they do give a strong hint of when it will be released, and it won't be soon.
HTC has filed a confidentiality request for the FCC, asking it to not reveal certain technical details of this device until September 10. This indicates this model is unlikely to hit the U.S. market before this date.
An Overview of the HTC Kaiser
This Kaiser will, at first glance, look a great deal like other devices designed by HTC, including the AT&T 8525. It will have a tablet shape with a QWERTY keyboard hidden below the 2.8-inch, QVGA screen.

But unlike its predecessors, when the screen is slid aside to expose the keyboard, it will flip up at an angle, making the device look something like a mini laptop.
It will run Windows Mobile 6 Professional on a 400 MHz processor. This model will have 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM, a percentage of which will be available to the user as internal storage. It will also include a microSD slot.
The Kaiser will be a quad-band GSM phone with GPRS and EDGE, as well as UMTS and HSDPA 3G networking. It will also sport Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and USB 2.0.
In addition, this Pocket PC will have a 2.8 megapixel camera, a GPS receiver, and a 1500 mAh battery.
