Verizon Wireless has been expected to release a replacement for the XV6700 for some time. If a new report is correct, this new device will debut in late August.
The UTStarcom XV6800 will have a great deal in common with its predecessor, but include Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the latest version of this operating system.
It will also be upgradeable to EV-DO Rev. A, which will significantly increase the data transfer speed of this smartphone.
Not the HTC Mogul
Sprint introduced the HTC Mogul in June, and some had expected Verizon, the other major CDMA carrier, to also offer this smartphone.

Instead, strong evidence is emerging that the XV6800 will be a CDMA version of the HTC Ty TN. A leaked roadmap of products supposedly to be released by Verizon this month, although slightly blurry, is part of this evidence.
The Mogul and Ty TN are similar, but not identical. Both have a built-in keyboard that can be hidden behind their QVGA touchscreens, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
Whichever of these the XV6800 is based on, it will almost certainly lack the unpopular external antenna that's a big part of its predecessor.
This model is also expected to have a 2.0 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot.
