The Apple iPhone is now available for $400, well below the regular selling price. There's a catch, of course: this is the price for a refurbished unit.
Refurbished devices are ones that have been returned to their manufacturer, who then fixes any problems they might have and then re-sells them at a reduced cost. It's not unusual for these devices to have scratches either on their casing or screen, but the odds of this are reduced in this particular case, as the iPhone hasn't yet been on the market for two months.
The Apple Outlet has just begun offering a refurbished 8 GB iPhone for $500 with free shipping, or the 4 GB refurbished version for $400. That's $100 off the regular price for these models.
An Overview of the Apple iPhone

This device supports the iTunes service, and it is capable of playing both music and video, which is displayed on its 3.5-inch, 320-by-480-pixel, 160 ppi display.
In addition, this is a quad-band GSM/GPRS phone. It includes support for AT&T's EDGE, but not UMTS/HSDPA. It does, however, have Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0.
The iPhone runs a version of OS X, the same operating system this company's desktop and laptop computers run. It is able to run some -- but not all -- specially selected OS X applications, including the Safari web browser.
This smartphone has a touchscreen, but does not include a stylus. Instead, users are expected to control it with their fingertips.
