Details Emerge on Palm OS Gaming Machine - Tapwave Helix

Last week we brought you news that PalmSource had come to terms with two new licensees that would be niche players. Tapwave is the first of these two to come forward, taking a direct shot at those who have outgrown Nintendo's Gameboy and want something more robust than Nokia's N-Gauge.

There are very few specs that are known at this time, here are a few:

-3.8" diagonal screen oriented in landscape mode
-MP3 player with stereo headphone jack
-Video player
-Standard Palm applications
-3D software drivers
-Built-in analog joystick
-Trigger buttons on the sides
-65k color screen

More details are expected to become available later in the day if they formally announce this product at the Palm developer's conference.

Tapwave hopes to leverage the power of the Palm OS and they have a few people that think they know how to make it work just right. Of their 16 employees, their co-founder and many others actually worked at Palm. The other side of the equation is creating great games for this device. Tapwave is working with Activision, Infogrames, Midway and Digital Eclipse to make this happen.
