While many devices have gained popularity for their style or function, Palm Treo devices have carved out a niche of being versatile enough for many vertical industries. And for those industries, it is not just having the power of a connected device like a Treo that is important, but also protecting that information in the harshest of conditions.
The OtterBox line of hard cases for Treos and other mobile devices does just that. And with the OtterBox 1921 case for the Treo 680/750/755p models, protection takes on a surprisingly functional approach.
How Does It Work?
The OtterBox 1921 is a two part case (front + top and rear + bottom) that seals the Treo in an airtight enclosure. Looking at the case when I first picked it up, I was surprised that despite the size and heft, that it was very hand-friendly.

Keeping with the functional approach, the OtterBox 1921 has buttons that match all of the Treo's functions on the front and left side of the case. The right side even has a stylus holder, which I initially thought was useless until I realized that lifting the plastic cover over the touchscreen lets you use it, even though it is still protected by a thin membrane.
The only additional item was a heavy duty belt clip. While easy to put on, it was probably one of the toughest clips I've had in some time.
How Usable Is It?
Because the OtterBox 1921 has all of the buttons and hands-friendly design, it's not only quite usable, but a pleasure to use. Sure, I might have looked really strange with such a large device and not taking a meter reading, but on the hazardous route of commuting to work, having my Treo protected with the OtterBox 1921 made for a niche that I wanted to be in: the one of non-bruised mobile devices.
The OtterBox 1921 can be purchased from the OtterBox web site for $99.95.
