Samsung Reportedly Preparing iPhone Lookalike Running Windows Mobile

According to a report out of Italy, Samsung may be prepping a Windows Mobile 6.1 device that mimics the look and some functions of the iPhone.

Described as the i900, the device is reported by KataWeb to feature quad-band GSM, 7.2 megabit HSDPA (bands not specified), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, 8 GB of built-in memory, TV-out, GPS, microSD card slot, 1500 mAh battery, and an FM radio.

Like the iPhone, the i900 reportedly has almost no physical buttons, making all interaction through the touchscreen. It is described as running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.

No Confirmation

The Italian-language site which first reported on the device suggests that it may be planned for an official announcement at the 3GSM conference in mid-February. However, no other sites or reports have reported on the existence of the i900, meaning that it must be considered unconfirmed information.

In addition, KataWeb has removed the story and picture of the i900 from its web site. In any case, the picture in question was so heavily watermarked by the site as to be almost unviewable.

If this smartphone does exist, it is unclear whether it will be available in the U.S., or what price it might debut at. If it follows previous cutting-edge Samsung models, however, a U.S. debut is unlikely.
