Motricity Lays Off 250, Plans To Sell PocketGear

Motricity, the parent company of software store PocketGear.com, has laid off 250 of its employees and plans to sell PocketGear as part of a restructuring of the company's businesses.

Motricity formerly also operated PalmGear, an online software store for Garnet OS devices, however this site was merged into PocketGear late last year as a cost-cutting measure for the company, which had seen PalmGear revenues decline.

Local media outlet WRAL Raleigh/Durham is reporting that the company plans to move its headquarters from Durham, North Carolina to Bellvue, Washington. The 250 layoffs leave a remaining workforce of 100 at the company's HQ, however a company spokesperson says that the operations remaining in Durham will be less than that.
