New Version of Symbian UIQ Announced

UIQ Technology has announced that UIQ 3.3 has been released to manufacturers.

UIQ 3.3 -- a touchscreen user interface/platform for smartphones built on a Symbian 9.3 -- includes incremental market and performance enhancements, enhanced support for operator services, and better customzation options for carrier integration.

Some other notable features include:

• The inclusion of Opera 9.5, which has been enhanced for the touchscreen nature of the UIQ platform
• A Widget Manager which uses the Opera rendering engine and integration
• Supports the Java JSR 248 MSA Fullset for Java-based applications
• A unified messaging composer for SMS, MMS, and voice messaging

The UIQ interface has been previously featured on Sony Ericsson and Motorola smartphones. However, at this time, no models have been announced that come with UIQ 3.3.
