AT&T CEO Says All Smartphones To Be 3G Within Months

The CEO of AT&T Wireless has said that all the smartphones available from that company will support 3G within the near future.

During a press event at the CTIA trade show, in response to a press question about 3G Blackberries, AT&T Wireless CEO Ralph de la Vega noted that the company was planning to expand, revise, and possibly trim their smartphone lineup in order to emphasize their high-speed internet service: "I'm talking about months for all the integrated devices to be 3G, and I mean months. I think that should be clear enough."

This comment strongly implies that the release of a 3G version of the iPhone is planned for the near future, as well as an HSDPA-eqiupped Blackberry model.

It also bodes ill for the future of Palm Inc's low-end Centro smartphone, recently released on AT&T, whose Garnet OS is incapable of supporting the carrier's 3G network.
