Verizon XV6900 Launching Next Week

Last week, Verizon announced plans to offer the XV6900, but wouldn't commit to a release date. Now comes word that this Windows Mobile smartphone will launch April 16.

This will be a version of the extremely popular HTC Touch, which is already available from Sprint and Alltel in the U.S., as well as a number of wireless carriers around the world.

An Overview of the Verizon XV6900

This smartphone will run Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and unlike the versions from its U.S. rivals, Verizon's will be GPS enabled, and include support for the carrier's VZ Navigator premium mapping service.

However, if this model will have EV-DO support like the Sprint version, then Verizon hasn't said anything about it.

Like all devices in the HTC Touch family, the XV6900 have a signature design which emphasizes the touchscreen functionality, and a customized launcher called TouchFLO, designed by HTC to make the device easy to use with fingers instead of a stylus.

Other features will include a 2.0 megapixel camera, microSDHC card slot, and Bluetooth 2.0.

Pricing and Availability

This consumer-oriented device will sell for $350 after a $50 rebate and a new two-year customer agreement.

The XV6900 will be available through Verizon's web site and B2B channels on April 16, and in this telecom's stores on April 30.
