Motorola Q9c, BlackBerry Curve May Be Coming to Verizon Next Week

At the CTIA tradeshow last month, Verizon promised to add three smartphones to its roster, and so far it has introduced only one of these. However, unconfirmed reports say this will change in the near future.

The Verizon XV6900 debuted a couple weeks ago, but there has been no sign of the Motorola Q9c and BlackBerry Curve 8330. That's supposedly going to change a week from today, Friday, May 9, according to Engadget.

The Motorola Q9c is a more business-oriented version of the Motorola Q9m smartphone that Verizon launched last August. The Q9c, despite being physically identical to the Q9m, features a different software package that emphasizes enterprise functions such as documents, email, and messaging, rather than the multimedia of the Q9m.

This device features a thumb keyboard, EV-DO high-speed Internet, GPS, and Windows Mobile 6 Standard.

The Q9c will sell for for $250 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year customer agreement. An additional $100 credit will be available for customers who sign up for qualifying voice and data plans.

Verizon's version of the Curve, dubbed the BlackBerry 8330, will include the same multimedia capabilities as other recent BlackBerry models, as well as EV-DO high-speed Internet, and an internal GPS receiver with support for Verizon's premium VZ Navigator mapping service.

The Curve will also feature a thumb keyboard, QVGA display, 2 MPx camera, and Bluetooth 2.0.

The device is expected to cost $270 after a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract. As with the Q9c, an additional $100 off will be given to those signing up for certain qualifying voice and data plans, bringing the device's lowest cost to $170 with new service.
