Possible New Pictures of the iPhone 3G Appear

Possibly the most eagerly awaited smartphone in development now is the second-generation iPhone. Rumors have been flying for months about it, but Apple has been doing everything it can to keep a lid on leaks.

It hasn't been entirely successful at this, and the latest is a pair of pictures that are purported to be of this device that have been leaked to iPhon.fr.

The French web site does not say anything about the source of these, nor give any additional information from this source.

More Rumors About the iPhone 3G

According to the best information available, the primary change in the upcoming model will be the inclusion of 3G. This will allow it to connect to faster cellular-wireless networks, increasing the speed at which users can surf the Web and exchange email. The current version uses the 2.5G standard EDGE.

That won't be the only hardware change, though. It will supposedly include a GPS receiver for location-based services.

As with the current model, there will reportedly be two versions, a 16 GB one and an 8 GB one.

The major software change in the upcoming version will be the ability to run native third-party applications that have been approved by Apple. Of course, current iPhones will get a system software upgrade to allow them to do this as well.
