AT&T has formally announced that it expects to have all of its 3G coverage updated to use the faster HSUPA standard by the end of this month.
HSUPA increases upload speeds for 3G users from a maximum of 384 Kbits to as much as 2 megabits, with AT&T predicting end-user speeds of around 800 Kbits. When used together with the high-speed download technology known as HSDPA, these standards are sometimes referred to as HSPA.
Since not all HSDPA devices also support HSUPA, users wishing to take advantage of the higher upload speeds will have to check their hardware specifications.
Further 3G Deployment
The company also elaborated on plans to expand its 3G service to cover "nearly 350" markets in the US by the end of the year, up from the current number of slightly more than 275. What cities or regions these new markets will cover, however, is currently unknown.
