Adobe Continuing to Work on Flash for the iPhone

Apple hasn't shown much interest in putting Flash on the iPhone, but Adobe is still pursuing the project.

During a recent conference call with industry analysts, Adobe was asked for a progress update on the project to bring support for its Web-based multimedia system to Apple's smartphone.

Shantanu Narayen, the company's President and CEO, said:

With respect to the iPhone, we are working on it. We have a version that's working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and, you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we've made to date.

Because of the system Apple is putting into place for third-party applications, Adobe will have to have Apple's permission to release its Flash player. In addition, it would need Apple's help if it wants to integrate Flash into the iPhone's Safari Mobile web browser.

There is cause to doubt this will happen, as Apple's CEO Steve Jobs stated publicly earlier this year  that Flash wouldn't perform well on the iPhone or iPod touch.
