Sony has started work on a mobile phone that will be part of its popular PlayStation line, according to a new report.
This device is expected to be very similar to the PlayStation Portable (PSP), but with mobile phone functionality added on.
There's some bad news for those who are excited about this product. MarketingWeek is saying that the PlayStation phone won't be on the market until the Christmas shopping season of next year.
Where's Sony Ericsson?
Sony and Ericsson teamed up years ago to collaborate on mobile phones. The resulting company -- Sony Ericsson -- makes CyberShot phones, for example, which put Sony's camera technology into handsets.
Earlier this year, a Sony Ericsson VP said that there was no PSP phone in the works. However, she might not have known about the project, because apparently her company isn't going to be involved.
Instead, Sony is reportedly going to develop the PlayStation phone without Ericsson.
