Apple is working to improve its troubled MobileMe service, but in the mean time it's trying to keep subscribers happy by waiving the fees for using it.
MobileMe is Apple's new service that's similar to Exchange but targeted at consumers, not business users as Microsoft's offering does. It lets users synchronize their emails, contacts, and calendars, not only with their iPhone or iPod touch but also with a Mac or Windows computer.
Since its launch in June, people have had numerous problems with MobileMe, especially with the web services, such as the online calendar and iDisc.
A message posted on Apple's website today says "While we are making a lot of improvements, the MobileMe service is still not up to our standards. We are extending subscriptions 60-days free of charge to express appreciation for our members’ patience as we continue to improve the service."
This comes on top of an earlier offering of 30 days of free service for subscribers.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs acknowledged the problems with MobileMe earlier this month, and promised to have the fixed by the end of this year.
