Earlier this week, Apple released an update for the system software on the iPhone 3G. The company has admitted this was created to help alleviate connection problems its smartphone is having.
As has been widely reported, some users of the latest version of the iPhone complain that their calls are dropped when switching from a 3G connection to a 2.5G (EDGE) one.
Hardware or Software Problem?
At this point, it's not yet clear if this problem is being caused by bugs in the iPhone's communication software or if the blame can be laid on bad wireless chips from Infineon.
If the connection issues are caused by faulty hardware, then Apple's ability to fix them with software updates is going to be limited.
