American Airlines Now Offering In-Flight Wi-Fi

American Airlines is now offering Wi-Fi service to passengers on some of its trans-continental flights.

The service will be available to those on a Boeing 767-200 aircraft on a nonstop flight between New York and San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, or New York and Miami.

"With today’s launch, American Airlines makes history as the first and only U.S. airline to offer customers full inflight Internet connectivity,” said Dan Garton, American’s Executive Vice President – Marketing.

Although American is the first to get in-flight Wi-Fi off the ground, it will soon be joined by others. Delta Airlines, for example, announced earlier this month that it will begin offering Wi-Fi to its passengers this fall.

American's service, which is being handled by Aircell, will cost $12.95 per flight.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) services are not available.
