Rumors swirling around Sony's high-end Windows Mobile handset, the XPERIA X1, suggest that software problems are going to result in the delay of the device's launch until the end of this year or the beginning of the next.

Officially, the X1 was only slated for some time in the second half of 2008, however it was widely expected to hit the market some time in September. However, according to rumors the device's implementation of Windows Mobile 6.1 is proving problematic, and a Sony representative told tech blog Engadget that the release window was now December or January.
The X1 features a high resolution widescreen display along with WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Pricing is currently unknown, but expected to be high due to the target market of the device and its lack of a carrier subsidy.
