PalmPowerUps has released its much anticipated software that adds support for high-capacity memory cards to many of Palm's handhelds.
All of Palm's traditional handhelds debuted during the days when SD cards maxed out at 2 GB (or in some cases 4 GB). Since then, memory card makers introduced the SDHC format, which physically looks and acts much the same, but allows for 32 GB cards.
In order for these devices to be able to use SDHC cards, all that's needed is a software update. Many people have asked for this, but with all its attention on smartphones, Palm isn't working on updates for its older handhelds.
That's when Dmitry Grinberg stepped in. He has written PowerSDHC, a software driver that adds support for high-capacity memory cards to following Palm OS models:
Grinberg also said, "Support for other devices might be announced at a later time." He is now working to add support for the Tapwave Zodiac models, Garmin iQue series, and Tungsten T3.
Pricing and Availability
This driver is available now for $20.95 from the PalmPowerUps website.
Anyone who paid for the beta should be able to get the full version for free, and anyone who tried the free beta can retry the final version.
Note: Palm's latest smartphones include SDHC support, so a similar third-party driver isn't necessary.
