Epocware's Handy Shell, an HTC-like homescreen application for Symbian S60 devices, has come out of beta and now includes an additional application accent. Handy Shell replaces the Active Standby screen with three additional views, an advanced launcher, weather forecast (via Handy Weather), customizable settings, and more.
The three views consist of the Today, Contacts, and Applications. The Today view adds a digital clock with date and alarms, application shortcuts, phone indicators such as Bluetooth, missed calls, new messages, new emails, active profile, and active theme, calendar events, and up to five days of weather data. The Contacts view shows 12 favorite contacts with optional dial or create message actions for those contacts. And the Applications view shows a grid of 12 applications which can be arranged for quick launching via the numberpad.
In order to utilize the weather function, a one-year subscription to Handy Weather is included in the price of Handy Shell. Previous Handy Weather owners would need to update to Handy Weather 6 and view the new summary terms for the subscription.
Handy Shell is compatible with S60 Third Edition, S60 Feature Pack 1 (3.1) and S60 Feature Pack 2 (3.2).
