HTC Touch HD Not Coming to the U.S.

In a move that will doubtless disappoint many, HTC has revealed that its upcoming cutting-edge smartphone the Touch HD won't be released in the United States.

Yesterday, the company posted on its Twitter feed, "sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news."

This is indeed sad news for those who are excited by the Touch HD's 800-by-480-pixel (WVGA) display and other high-end features. Still, HTC held out a small crumb of hope: "we do have other cool stuff coming."

And there's another possibility for frustrated potential customers in the U.S. This smartphone is expected to debut in Europe in November, and will doubtless appear on grey-market retailers' websites around the world shortly thereafter.

More About the HTC Touch HD

The centerpiece of this smartphone will be a 800-by-480-pixel (WVGA) touchscreen, but it will also sport a GPS receiver, a 5 MPx camera, and a microSD card slot.

It will run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and use HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface. Inside will be a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, 512 MB of flash memory, and 288 MB of RAM.

This will be a quad-band world-phone but its HSDPA support will be in European bands only. Still, it will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0/EDR.
