AT&T's Pantech Duo Gets Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade

When Microsoft released previous upgrades to its mobile operating system, there was sometimes grumbling from consumers about the number of models that didn't get to take advantage of them. Device makers appeared to have gotten the message, because the latest version, Windows Mobile 6.1, has been released for a wide variety of smartphones.

The next model to be added added to the long list is the Pantech Duo C810, which is offered by AT&T. 

For those who are unfamiliar with it, the Duo has both a QWERTY keyboard for text entry and a dedicated numberpad for dialing. It also has 3G.

The upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard can be found on Pantech's website, and it's available at no charge.

What's New?

The new version of Windows Mobile adds a sliding panel interface for the Today Screen, improvements in handling wireless connections, and an update to Internet Explorer Mobile.

More about the Pantech Duo

This smartphone launched at $200, but it's now available from AT&T for $80. This price reflects its fairly "bare-bones" feature set.

It runs the Standard edition of Windows Mobile, which is for devices without touchscreens. Speaking of the display, the Duo's is 2.2 inches across and has a QVGA resolution.

It comes with a suite of applications for handling email, surfing the Web, and playing audio and video. It also has a mobile version of Microsoft Office.

Other features include a 1.3 MPx camera and a microSD card slot.

Physically the Pantech Duo is 4.2 inches by 2 inches by 0.8 inches, and it weighs 3.9 ounces.
