Details Already Leaking Out on the Next Generation BlackBerry

The BlackBerry Bold, Storm, and Pearl Flip are still in the process of being rolled out and the first report of the smartphone that's going to follow them has already surfaced.

BGR says it was told by two independent sources that RIM's next-generation model will be something of a combination of the Bold and Storm, which likely means it will have both a touchscreen and a keyboard.

Naturally, details on the upcoming model are very sketchy -- the code-name isn't even known yet -- but other features will supposedly include a high-resolution screen, 1 GB of RAM, and a 5 MPx auto-focus camera.

When this model will be unveiled is not yet known, but if RIM stays true to form its unlikely this device will hit the market before late next year.

To Touchscreen or Not to Touchscreen

The BlackBerry Storm will be RIM's first model with a touchscreen, but its lack of a physical keyboard has caused some to question its appeal with heavy email users, which are the people who make up a good percentage of BlackBerry customers.

It's possible the upcoming model is a compromise device, offering both the features customers have asked for: touchscreens and keyboards.

However, this shouldn't be taken as a sign that RIM is already dropping the Storm's all-touchscreen design. The BGR's sources indicate that this company is already working on second-generation version.
